Reading Time: 2 minutes

I know for me, I am starting to plan our summer. My son told me the other day that I am talking about summer way TOO much. Yes, other parts of the country are already in full summer mode, but here in NJ my boys go to school until Tuesday, June 23.

What do I want to do this summer? What do I want us as a family to do?

I realized that I only have eight summers left before my oldest goes away to college. Yikes. This does not sound like that many and I always feel like the summers go by way too fast. Each summer is special with the unique interests and ages of your children. I want to choose well.

Each summer we like to do a list of things we want to do. We don’t usually do them all but it is always fun doing the list. Some are big trips and others are just things we want to do and remember on rainy or open quiet days. The planning, anticipation and dreaming about the summer is one of my favorite parts of the year.

We already have two family vacations planned. One is with my husband’s family and one is with my family. I also want to do another vacation or time away with just the four of us, maybe at the end of August? We are considering a trip to Washington DC, Gettysburg or maybe Toronto. Some other items on my summer list are:

  • Go to the beach (hopefully a few times)
  • Go hiking and biking (hopefully many times)
  • Go to a professional baseball game
  • Pool Time
  • Reading special books with my boys
  • Watch a movie or two (not something we do very often)
  • I want to catch up on my annual photobooks from previous years that I have not created yet
  • Kayaking in the local canal
  • Bowling
  • Miniature Golfing
  • Dinners with family and friends

We have not had our family brainstorming session and officially made our “2021 summer list” so I don’t know what else the boys and my husband will add. Everyone gets to contribute to the list.

The most important part of the summer is that I want to be present, more fully present.

I want to have more fun and BE more fun. (I don’t think of myself as very fun and would love to change that.)

I want to make some great memories with my family and friends.

I want to have some time for spontaneous activities and also time to relax and replenish my soul.

Summer is a special time to play and I want to prioritize that. I know I will be working so I want to be efficient with my time and focus on being present in each moment.

What are your plans for the summer?

How is this summer different than previous (not 2020) summers?

Are there things from the summer of 2020 that you want to continue and do again?

I would love to hear any ideas and plans that you would like to share.

Thank you!
Tara

P.S. The picture above was a special memory from 2020 of seeing the sunrise at the beach with my boys.
