Do You Believe In Magic?

I took an archetype personality test and one of the questions was “Do you believe in magic? (on a scale of 1-5)”

I later asked my husband and sons this question at dinner. The conversation was so interesting that I am now wanting to ask others this same question. I want to hear your answer.

After I asked this question at dinner, everyone immediately asked, “How do you define magic? or What do you mean by magic?” No, I am not talking about being a magician where you perform magic tricks with optical illusions. Although I do think that is entertaining and interesting.

To me, “magic” means miracles, events that defy logic or seem extremely unlikely, impossible. To me, magic is related to God and having faith. It is believing in something bigger than us and that anything is possible. I like science and math yet the older I get the more I believe there are things beyond logic. These are the things that make life interesting and beautiful and full of hope. I know there is much sadness, struggle, and tragedy all around us, but I also believe in God / Love / A Higher being, whatever you to call it, wanting what is best for us. Praying or wishing for what you want has a power that can make miracles happen.

The definition of magic according to Oxford Languages is: “the power of apparently influencing the course of events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.”

Do you believe in supernatural forces?
I do.

I am not explaining “magic” well, but I do believe in it. My sister was surprised that I do. I was incredulous that she didn’t think I believed in magic. I guess because I have always been so logical and science based. I believe in planning and taking action, yet I believe that there is a power beyond logic or maybe it is a form of logic that we cannot yet see and comprehend.

Miracles do happen. There are many stories of miracles in the Bible and in the world today. Magic is always present and around us if we are willing to look for it and call upon it. I believe in magic and want to learn more about it.

What examples of magic have you experienced in your life? Why or why don’t you believe in magic? How would you define magic? Please share if you are willing.

P.S. For those of us old enough, I assume this song may come to mind…

P.P.S. Here is an example of magic that I recently read and liked

Jim Carrey’s Commencement Speech at Maharishi University of Management 2014
(22:29) “I had a substitute teacher from Ireland in the second grade that told my class during morning prayer that when she wants something, anything at all, she prays for it and promises something in return. And she always gets what she wants. I’m sitting at the back of the classroom thinking, “Wow, my family can’t afford a bike.” So I went home and I prayed for one and I promised I would recite the rosary every night in exchange. Broke it. Broke that promise. But two weeks later, I got home from school to find a brand new Mustang bike with a banana seat and easy rider handlebars. Yeah. From fool to cool.

My family informed me that I had won the bike in a raffle that a friend of mine had entered my name in without my knowledge whatsoever. So that type of thing has been happening to me ever since. As far as I can tell, it’s just about letting the universe know what you want and working toward it while letting go of how it comes to pass.

Your job is not to figure out how it’s going to happen for you, but to open the door in your head. And when the door opens in real life, just walk through it. And don’t worry if you miss your cue because there’s always doors opening. They keep opening. And when I say, “Life doesn’t happen to you, it happens for you.” I really don’t know if that’s true. I’m just making a conscious choice to perceive challenges as something beneficial so that I can deal with them in the most productive way. You’ll come up with your own style. That’s part of the fun.

Oh, and why not take a chance on faith as well? Take a chance on faith, not religion, but faith. Not hope, but faith. I don’t believe in hope. Hope is a beggar. Hope walks through the fire and faith leaps over it. You are ready and able to do beautiful things in this world. And after you walk through those doors today, you will only ever have two choices, love or fear. Choose love, and don’t ever let fear turn you against your playful heart.”

P.P.P.S. I vaguely remember a study by Einstein where if you receive a box and declare what you want to be in the box, you can increase the possibility of it being in there. (I tried looking for this study to share but unfortunately, I could not find it.) Does anyone else know what I am talking about?
